Petaluma Shakespeare Festival 2023

Much Ado About Nothing June 2-18, 2023

Directed by Jen Biancalana

The war is over! It’s time to eat, drink and bask in the Italian summer sun! It’s the perfect time for love to blossom, for some. The confident outspoken Benedick and the headstrong witty Beatrice would rather exchange scorching insults than whisper sweet words of love. Their family and friends however have a few tricks up their sleeve to help these two self-proclaimed bachelors fall into a mountain of affection! However amidst the light hearted shenanigans, dastardly plots are unfolding. Amidst the deception, will true love prevail?. Five actors come together to bring William Shakespeare’s fast-moving, energetic and heartfelt comedy to life!

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Sept. 22-Oct. 01

Directed by John Langdon

When Egeus demands that his daughter marry a particular mate of his choosing despite her love for another, he also calls on the ancient Athenian Law to put Hermia to death if she will not bow to her father’s will. When she refuses, Duke Theseus gives her only a few days to consider her fate. The standoff sets in motion one of Shakespeare’s most enduring and beloved comedies.

A group of mishap players plan to mount an entertainment for the Duke’s own wedding to his conquered Amazon warrior fiancee, Hippolyta. The fairy king and queen remain at war over a stolen prince, and society and circumstance contrive to cross young couples’ stars while magic and mischief conspire to bring lovers together. One of Shakespeare’s greatest works, A Midsummer Night’s Dream is fun, funny and poignant, offering a little bit of everything and something wonderful for everyone.
